Verstappen emerged victorious in five out of the seven races this season, achieving an impressive streak of seven pole positions. However, the three-time world champion acknowledged that Norris is closing the gap. When asked about Norris’ recent comments on the possibility of competing for the title with McLaren’s current performance, Verstappen responded, “Everyone should adopt that mindset.”

“After their recent races, they are really in the mix. Although they are currently behind by a significant number of points, a sudden string of wins can quickly change the situation,” Verstappen said during a press conference in Monaco on Thursday.

McLaren, a former champion, has made impressive progress since July last year, especially with Norris securing six second places in the remaining races of the season.

Norris secured his first Formula 1 victory in Miami earlier this month, after finishing second in Shanghai. He also secured second place at the Imola circuit in Italy last weekend, and third place in Australia in March. In the last five races, Norris has been on the podium in four of them, never finishing below eighth place.

Alongside Carlos Sainz from Ferrari, Norris is one of only two drivers, besides Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez, to have secured a victory since 2022.

Currently occupying the fourth position in the standings before the eighth round in Monaco, Norris is behind Verstappen by a significant 60 points, with 17 more rounds to go. Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari, is Verstappen’s closest rival, with a 48-point difference.

Verstappen dominated last year’s season, winning 19 out of 22 races, setting a record for the most dominant season. However, Ferrari and McLaren each have secured a victory in this campaign.

In a separate statement about his championship chances, Norris stated: “In the last four weeks, we really haven’t thought about it. We’ve focused on getting good results, and things tend to fall into place. We’ve definitely put ourselves in contention.”

“We suffered significant points losses in the early weeks, which affected us. However, we are only a third into the season, so there are plenty of opportunities ahead. We know there are still developments to come, and if circumstances change, we can easily catch up with some of the other teams.”

Norris added: “Alongside Ferrari, we are probably the only team where both cars perform consistently well in all sessions and races during qualifying.” Norris’s best result in Monte Carlo was a third place in 2021, achieved over four visits to the circuit. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin)

The future of sports: What to expect in the coming years?

The world of sports is constantly evolving and adapting to changes. With the advancement of technology and the growing demand from fans, sports are becoming something beyond what we have seen before. In this article, we will explore some of the trends and innovations that may shape the future of sports in the coming years.

One of the most significant changes is the integration of virtual and augmented reality in sports. With the use of special glasses and portable devices, fans will be able to experience an immersive experience during games. They will be able to feel as if they are in the stadium, interacting with players and other fans, even if they are thousands of kilometers away.

Furthermore, artificial intelligence will also play an important role in the future of sports. Coaches will be able to use advanced algorithms to analyze data and make strategic decisions during games. This could lead to a faster and more efficient game, with fewer human errors.

Another trend that is gaining momentum is the personalization of sports. With the use of wearables and mobile apps, fans will be able to customize their sports experience according to their preferences. They will be able to choose which cameras to watch, receive real-time statistics, and even interact with players and coaches through digital platforms.

Additionally, sustainability will also become a significant concern in the future of sports. With the increasing awareness of climate change, sports events will have to find ways to reduce their carbon footprint. This may include the adoption of renewable energies, reducing the use of plastic, and implementing sustainable practices in all areas of sports.

In summary, the future of sports promises to be exciting and full of innovations. With the integration of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, personalization, and sustainability, fans will be able to enjoy a completely new sports experience in the coming years. We are looking forward to seeing how these trends will develop and how they will impact the world of sports.
