Família de Michael Schumacher ganha $200.000 em processo por entrevista gerada por IA.

The AI-generated interview of Michael Schumacher received significant criticism when it was published in April 2023. Schumacher, who is widely considered the greatest driver in the history of motorsport, disappeared from public view after a tragic skiing accident in January 2013. Since then, his family has kept details about the F1 legend under wraps. Recently, the family won a legal case regarding a fabricated interview of the seven-time world champion.

The publication ‘Die Aktuelle’ released an interview claiming to be with Schumacher, a decade after his life-changing accident. However, it was later discovered that this interview was generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a result, the magazine’s editor was fired.

In response, Schumacher’s family took legal action against the editors. The media mediator responsible for the case determined that mere apologies from Hoffmann and Die Aktuelle were insufficient. The family received a compensation of $200,000.

Over the past ten years, Schumacher’s family has fiercely protected the privacy of the seven-time world champion. Only close friends had access to Schumacher during this time. Therefore, it was crucial for the family to set a precedent that would discourage similar incidents in the future.

Following the victory in the legal case, neither Schumacher’s wife nor his children made public statements. The German family is likely relieved to have obtained justice through the legal process. Meanwhile, Schumacher’s son, who currently serves as a reserve driver for Mercedes in F1 and competes in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine, continues to carry on his father’s racing legacy.

Undoubtedly, this incident was a disrespectful violation of Michael Schumacher’s privacy. As the influence of AI continues to grow, the world must remain vigilant against similar cases in the future. Journalists, in particular, must recognize that they cannot exploit such tools at the expense of a family’s privacy.
