Espargaro criticizes MotoGP officials for not taking action at Le Mans.

Aleix Espargaro criticizes MotoGP stewards for their lack of action during the French Grand Prix, where the Aprilia rider was involved in incidents with other competitors.

During the race at Le Mans, Espargaro was initially in a strong third position. However, two controversial incidents caused him to lose positions and finish in ninth place.

The first incident occurred when Ducati’s Enea Bastianini squeezed his bike inside Espargaro’s Aprilia at turns 9 and 10 on the 7th lap, forcing Espargaro off the track and losing several positions.

On the final lap, Espargaro faced another setback when Franco Morbidelli made a bold move in the last corner, resulting in Espargaro being overtaken by KTM’s Brad Binder.

In a post-race interview with Autosport, Espargaro expressed his confusion and frustration with stewards’ failure to properly investigate both incidents.

“The speed was enough to finish in the top five, but Enea collided with me at an extremely high speed. Fortunately, it happened in the run-off area,” Espargaro stated.

“I can’t understand why he didn’t receive a penalty for his actions. Additionally, I lost a lot of time behind Diggia [Fabio Di Giannantonio] and [Fabio] Quartararo. I managed to overtake them on a few occasions, but they quickly passed me again.

“Then, in the last chicane, Franco collided with me forcefully, and Binder also overtook me. Although Franco apologized after the race, no penalty was given. I was left with no options. It was a very peculiar race.”

Espargaro decided not to communicate with the stewards and race control regarding his thoughts on the race. He believed that the stewards would continue to behave the same way and therefore saw no point in talking to them. He expressed his indifference, stating: “Nothing will change, so no. I am calm, I don’t care. They saw the images, they didn’t act. They say, ‘I wish you would come and explain.’ We tried. But nothing changes, I don’t care to continue.”

Morbidelli shared his perspective on the incident that occurred between him and Espargaro in the last corner. He tried to overtake Espargaro, but realized that Espargaro did not seem satisfied with the maneuver. However, Morbidelli stated that he is used to Espargaro’s behavior and emphasized that there was no physical contact between them. He said: “We didn’t touch each other.”

In the past, Morbidelli and Espargaro had a clash during practice in Qatar. At that time, Espargaro slapped Morbidelli’s helmet when their bikes collided.

Espargaro clarified the incident involving Bastianini, explaining that there was no direct contact between their bikes. However, he admitted that he had to deviate from the racing line to avoid a possible collision. He explained: “With Enea, I had to maneuver my bike quickly. But the same goes for Franco, if I hadn’t made that maneuver, we would both have crashed. The feeling I have is that penalties are only given if you fall. But the action itself should be judged and penalized, not just the result. If I had kept my line, we would be in a dangerous situation. I watched the replay, and he [Bastianini] was far away when he made his move. I really didn’t understand. I lost my race. I wasn’t doing so bad at that point in the race. I wasn’t fighting for the win or podium, but I was doing well. But I lost six seconds there.”
