A equipe de Fórmula 1 da Aston Martin priorizou Stroll em vez de Alonso no Grande Prêmio de Ímola.

Lance Stroll, a member of the Aston Martin AMR24 Formula 1 team, had a successful race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Aston Martin boss Mike Krack recently revealed that Fernando Alonso’s race was sacrificed to support Stroll’s chances of scoring points in the competition. The team faced challenges throughout the weekend, resulting in both cars starting outside the top 10 on the grid. Stroll began the race in 13th position, while Alonso had to start from the pit lane due to an accident during the third free practice session. Despite these setbacks, Aston Martin made adjustments to Alonso’s car suspension, breaking parc ferme regulations. Alonso took a risk by starting the race on soft tires and making a pit stop on the seventh lap. This strategic move led other teams to follow suit, allowing Stroll to have a longer first stint with newer tires. Seizing this opportunity, Stroll managed to overtake Nico Hulkenberg and Yuki Tsunoda, securing ninth place and earning two points. Krack expressed his satisfaction with Stroll’s performance and the team’s strategy, acknowledging the difficulty of overtaking in Imola. However, he also recognized that Aston Martin still needs to improve its competitiveness, with the focus now on extracting the full potential of the AMR24 in the upcoming races, starting with the next Monaco Grand Prix.

In tabloid format, Alonso conducted an unexpected testing session in Imola to gather data on updates, as there were few overtaking opportunities. Aston Martin’s recent improvements did not improve their position as the fifth fastest team, leaving them vulnerable to midfield competitors like RB. Alonso reflected on the difficult day and weekend, starting from the pits and making changes to the car setup. This allowed them to collect valuable data for analysis in the coming days. Initially, they chose soft tires for the race, hoping for a Safety Car intervention to shake things up. When that didn’t happen, they experimented with different compounds, treating it as a testing session. Alonso emphasized the need to regroup and position themselves well for the upcoming race in Monaco. Recognizing the even stricter overtaking limitations in Monaco, Alonso acknowledged the importance of standing out in qualifying to ease Sunday’s race.
