Charles Leclerc, the Monaco driver representing Ferrari, had an unfortunate result at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Leclerc revealed that a different approach in power strategy during qualifying prevented Ferrari from achieving a better result than third place. Despite a promising start to the weekend in Imola, where Leclerc dominated the first two practice sessions with the updated SF-24 car from Ferrari, the team fell behind McLaren in the third practice session. Max Verstappen, who made a strong comeback, secured pole position, leaving Leclerc in fourth place. Both Leclerc and his teammate Carlos Sainz expressed disappointment with Ferrari’s performance in the initial sector, which has been a recurring issue due to difficulties with tire heating. Leclerc specifically highlighted the team’s lack of straight-line speed on the start-finish straight towards Tamburello as the main problem. Reflecting on the qualifying session, Leclerc emphasized that they lost ground at the start and attributed it to a different power strategy compared to McLaren and Red Bull. He also mentioned that Verstappen had the advantage of drafting behind Nico Hulkenberg. Leclerc acknowledged the importance of track position, especially on a circuit like Imola, where the differences between Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari were minimal. He believed that the third place in qualifying ultimately cost them a better result in the race. During the race, Leclerc briefly challenged Lando Norris in the early stages of the second stint, but couldn’t maintain the pace and fell behind. Despite securing Ferrari’s first podium in Imola since 2006, Leclerc expressed his dissatisfaction with finishing seven seconds behind the leaders. He recognized the importance of being on the podium in Imola, but stated that his goal is always to be at the top. Leclerc acknowledged that they missed the opportunity for a better result mainly during qualifying and mentioned that they would analyze the situation. In the race, he noted that the competition was intense, with all drivers pushing at different times.
