Verstappen dá esperança aos competidores da F1 com confissão no Grande Prêmio de Ímola.

Max Verstappen, the driver who secured pole position at the top of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, gave his competitors a glimmer of hope by admitting that his struggles during the practice sessions left him unprepared for the race. Despite his impressive record of four wins in the first six races, Verstappen expressed frustration with the balance of his Red Bull car during the initial practice sessions in Imola. However, a thorough analysis of the data and adjustments to the car’s setup after the third practice session motivated Verstappen to secure a narrow pole position ahead of the McLaren drivers.

Due to the limited overtaking opportunities on the Italian circuit and Red Bull’s strong performance in longer races, Verstappen is considered the clear favorite for the race. However, while Verstappen is more optimistic about his chances after his unexpected pole position, he remains uncertain about his race pace. When asked if he is confident in converting his eighth consecutive pole position start into another victory, Verstappen replied: “No way.”

Verstappen detailed his concerns about his performance in both long and short races, describing yesterday’s practice sessions as “terrible.” He explained that even during a short race, he struggled with the balance, so it’s not surprising that his long race wasn’t good either. Despite the improvements in balance during qualifying, Verstappen admitted to not being aware of McLaren’s performance. He acknowledged that the McLaren team showed strength in their long race the day before, expressing hope that his team can achieve a similar result.

The difficulties Verstappen faced in finding the ideal performance of his Red Bull car can be compared to his experience in Australia, where he also recovered to secure the top position on the starting grid. Despite facing a technical issue that limited his participation in that race, the Emilia Romagna GP has similarities to the race in Australia that did not materialize.

When asked about the challenge of overtaking the McLarens and Ferraris behind him, Verstappen acknowledged: “Yes, definitely. Throughout the weekend, we were at a disadvantage. We managed to come out on top in qualifying, but that’s just qualifying. The race may present different circumstances.”

“I would prefer to have better preparation and more information before the race, so we will have to wait and see what happens,” Verstappen added.

However, Verstappen rejected the idea that this weekend revealed that the Red Bull car from 2024 is harder to set up compared to its successful predecessor, the RB18. When asked about this proposition, Verstappen clarified: “No, actually I believed it was easier compared to last year from the beginning of the season. The challenges I faced in previous races were not as significant as what we encountered here.”

“It was more about adjusting some minor details. However, this time we were completely off track, making it difficult for me to push. It required more attention to detail to try to correct the situation. Still, I believe it is a very strong car that I feel comfortable with. This weekend, however, has been particularly challenging in terms of setup. I hope we have learned a lot from it.”

“As we approach the next race in Monaco, it is always complicated to extract the full potential of the car due to various variables. However, I hope for a more consistent performance,” Verstappen concluded.
