Tridente dominates the qualifying session at the Imola circuit, securing the top three positions. Santiago Ramos emerged as the fastest driver, setting a time of 1:31.767, ahead of his teammates Fornaroli and Meguetounif.
As soon as the green lights came on at the pit lane exit, most drivers immediately headed out to the track to make the most of the 30-minute qualifying session.
The MP Motorsport trio was the first group to set a fast lap, with the Trident and Prema drivers following closely behind.
There was a significant amount of traffic at Rivazza corner as drivers waited for the opportunity to start a fast lap during the first attempt.
Both Prema and Trident were expected to be the favorites in terms of lap times, with Dino Beganovic securing pole position in the first round in Bahrain and Fornaroli achieving the same feat in the last round in Melbourne.
After the first attempt, Prema’s Gabriele Mini set the benchmark with a time of 1:32.598, closely followed by Fornaroli, who was less than a tenth of a second slower.
With 20 minutes remaining, all drivers were improving their lap times, but the session was temporarily interrupted when Callum Visin’s Rodin car got stuck in the gravel trap at Variante Tamburello (Turns 3-4).
Once the crane removed Visin’s car, the green flags were waved again, and most of the grid returned to the track to avoid further interruptions in the qualifying session.
During the second attempt, Red Bull junior driver Oliver Goethe secured provisional pole position with a time of 1:32.517, before many drivers went back to the pits to switch to new sets of tires for the final attempts of the session.
Cependant, Fornaroli est resté en piste et a pris la première place à Goethe, en marquant un temps au tour presque quatre dixièmes de seconde plus rapide et en réalisant le temps le plus rapide dans les trois secteurs.
Le nouveau pilote junior de McLaren, Alex Dunne, a également réalisé un tour alors que la plupart des pilotes étaient dans les stands, assurant la deuxième position provisoire dans sa nouvelle McLaren.
Lors de la première tentative avec le deuxième jeu de pneus, Prema a assuré les deux premières positions, avec Lindblad décrochant la pole provisoire, suivi de près par son coéquipier Beganovic.
Finalement, les pilotes de Trident ont trouvé le rythme supplémentaire lors du dernier tour rapide, assurant les trois premières positions au classement.
Étonnamment, ce n’était pas Fornaroli qui a réalisé le temps le plus rapide, mais son coéquipier Santiago Ramos, qui a décroché sa première pole position en Formule 3 avec un temps de 1:31.767, avec Meguetounif complétant le top trois pour Trident.
Le trio de Prema a suivi de près Trident, avec Lindblad en tête à la quatrième place, suivi de Beganovic et Mini. Dunne a intercalé les pilotes de Prema, terminant en cinquième position.
Goethe, Van Hoepen et Browning ont complété le top 10 lors de la séance de qualification sur le circuit italien.
