Bearman and Arthur Leclerc, the younger brother of Ferrari driver Charles, recently tested the latest prototypes in rainy conditions. Bearman followed behind Leclerc, who had wheel covers on his car, to observe the impact on the following vehicle. Bearman expressed the need to reassess the situation after reviewing the test videos. He acknowledged that visibility was still a challenge, despite some improvement. Different levels of openness were experimented with during the test races to find the right balance, considering the impact on tire temperature when the covers are fully closed.
An earlier test at Silverstone revealed the need for further development, as an excess of spray from the car’s rear diffuser was observed. This test gained importance after the tragic death of Dilano van’t Hoff in a wet race in Belgium. Bearman has six free practice sessions with Haas this season, as they have a potential vacancy for 2025. Kevin Magnussen, who is at risk of race suspension due to penalty points, is also nearing the end of his contract. Bearman, who impressed as a substitute for Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia, stated he is ready to replace Magnussen if needed. However, he acknowledged that he needs to earn a full-time spot on the Haas team through good performances in F2 and in his upcoming free practice sessions.
