Problema em ‘airbags’ obriga Citroën a chamar à oficina 600 mil automóveis

Citroën has called more than 600,000 C3 and DS3 cars to the workshop, in about 20 countries due to an issue with the airbag in models produced between 2009 and 2019, which are no longer being sold.

According to the French car manufacturer told the “Agence France Presse” (AFP), a total of 605,772 vehicles are covered in this call to the workshops, in about 20 countries in Southern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

There are 497,171 Citroën C3 and 108,601 Citroën DS3 affected, all due to the “deterioration of the gas” contained in the airbags, “which ages over the years,” as indicated by a spokesperson for the brand, which belongs to the Stellantis group.

“When the gas deteriorates, it can affect various parts that make up the airbag and, when activated in the event of an accident, there may be particles or small parts that can be launched with the inflatable cushion and cause injuries,” he added.

According to the “product recall” notice published on May 3 on the French website Rappel Conso, “the propellant (gas) in the driver’s and passenger’s airbags can deteriorate over time. In the event of an accident where the airbags are deployed, they may rupture with great force, injuring the vehicle’s occupants.”

Citroën has already sent recall letters to the owners of the models in question, who must register online to then be contacted to schedule the repair at a dealership, covered by the manufacturer.
