Shark é a nova pick-up híbrida plug-in da BYD

BYD presented its first pick-up, Shark, in Mexico, a hybrid model that marks the Chinese brand’s debut in a segment where it will compete with the Ford Ranger, as well as the Toyota Hilux, and the Isuzu D-Max.

The BYD Shark measures 5.45 meters in length, 1.97 meters in width, 1.92 meters in height, a wheelbase of 3.26 meters, and a payload capacity of 835 kg with 1450 liters of available volume.

Esthetically the BYD Shark stands out for a muscular grille flanked by vertical headlights and LED lighting, accompanied by plastic body cladding, roof bars, as well as 18’’ alloy wheels. At the rear, the wide tailgate and vertical taillights connected by a horizontal strip stand out.

In the interior, the digital instrument panel with a 10.25’’ screen stands out, as well as the infotainment system equipped with a 12.8’’ rotating screen that is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and features voice recognition technology. The Shark’s interior also has various physical buttons on the steering wheel and central console, where the gear selector is located.

Regarding the engine, the new BYD Shark is equipped with plug-in hybrid technology that combines a 1.5-liter turbo engine with two electric motors, one per axle. The front motor has a power of 170 kW (227 hp) and a maximum torque of 310 Nm, while the rear electric motor has 150 kW (201 hp) and 340 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined power of 436 hp which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The two electric motors are powered by a BYD LFP Blade battery with a capacity of 29.58 kWh, and it promises an electric-only range of 100 km.

A BYD also announced that the pick-up offers a range of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, front and rear collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, among others.
