Andretti predicts GM’s dedication in F1 to be equal to that of Ferrari and Mercedes.

Andretti prevê dedicação da GM na F1 igual à da Ferrari e Mercedes.

Michael Andretti believes that the collaborative efforts of the Formula 1 team bearing his name and partner General Motors have the potential to match the performance of Ferrari and Mercedes.

Andretti’s team was approved by the FIA last October, but the Formula One Management (FOM) did not grant permission for the American team to participate. The FOM expressed doubts about Andretti’s ability to be a competitive contender in 2025/6 and questioned the value an 11th team would bring.

However, the FOM stated that they would consider Andretti’s entry for the 2028 season, on the condition that General Motors commits to becoming a power unit manufacturer. General Motors expressed their interest to the FIA in supplying engines to Formula 1, and they plan to develop a powertrain under the Cadillac brand specifically for Andretti’s team.

While there have been suggestions that General Motors may partner with another team, Jim Campbell, Vice President of Performance and Motorsport, emphasized the company’s dedication to Andretti. When asked about Andretti’s confidence in GM’s support for his F1 venture, Andretti expressed his unwavering belief, stating: “Very. Very committed, very excited. People won’t fully understand the effort that has been made on both sides. We are determined to rival Ferrari and Mercedes, given the tremendous effort being made with a major company like GM.”

Michael was present at the Miami Grand Prix with his father Mario, who won the World Championship in 1978. The duo is currently in negotiations with Formula 1 regarding their bid to enter the sport in 2026. Michael expressed the need for better communication and understanding of the requirements for entry. He mentioned that they are actively working on various aspects and hope to receive responses soon.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding its acceptance, Andretti continued to move forward with their plans. They recently opened a new headquarters in Silverstone and increased job openings to expand their workforce. When asked about the risks involved, Michael acknowledged the potential risks but emphasized his strong belief in the benefits of the project for Formula 1 and American fans. He also highlighted the importance of bringing a company like General Motors to Formula 1.

The Andretti saga took an unexpected turn, with members of the United States Congress reaching out to Liberti Media for clarification on the denial. Michael Andretti expressed surprise at these developments but appreciated the support the potential team received. He stated that his focus remains on building the team and welcomed the attention of influential figures interested in the project.
