Red Bull: Adrian Newey could join Ferrari, team consultant says

Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko predicted that renowned designer Adrian Newey will join Ferrari if he decides to continue his Formula 1 career with a different team.

Earlier this month, Red Bull announced that Newey will step down as Technical Director in 2025, ending his nearly twenty-year association with the Austrian team.

The highly respected British designer expressed his desire for new challenges and did not rule out the possibility of joining a rival team to extend his career.

It was reported that Newey received proposals from both Aston Martin and Ferrari, with Williams team boss James Vowles showing great interest in his services.

Despite rumors that Newey was not interested in Aston Martin, Marko suggested he could be heading to Silverstone with a comment about a “great color like green.”

However, Marko has now clarified his statement, stating that he believes Ferrari will ultimately secure Newey’s highly sought-after signature.

When asked about Marko’s suggestion regarding Aston Martin, he replied: “I was misunderstood. I would say red.”

Although Marko has confidence in Red Bull’s existing technical team, he acknowledges that Newey’s absence will be felt when the regulations reset in 2026.

“Newey is a legendary figure. He is the best Formula 1 designer and excels in the face of regulatory changes, as he knows how to exploit new interpretations,” Marko said.

“He also serves as a symbol for the team. Having him on board made it easier to attract young engineers, as it was considered an honor to work with him.”

Marko also highlighted the team’s diverse technical staff, which includes experienced individuals such as Pierre Wache, Technical Director, as well as younger talents.

“When problems arose, Newey was often the first to find a solution,” Marko added.

However, Marko, along with other team members, downplayed concerns about a mass exodus at Red Bull after Newey’s departure.

“Although the myth surrounding Newey may disappear, I do not believe we will experience a technical decline as a result,” Marko reassured.

“Now, our focus is on the World Championship and getting the team back on track.”
