Operação TVDE seguro regista 569 contraordenações em 5 dias

A total of 713 drivers were detected using their mobile phones while driving, according to data released today from the campaign “At the wheel, the mobile phone can wait” which took place last week.

The campaign, carried out by the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), National Republican Guard (GNR) and Public Security Police (PSP), and which took place from May 7 to 13, aimed to alert drivers to the serious consequences of using a mobile phone while driving.

In a statement, ANSR reported that “during the operations, security forces physically inspected 50.3 thousand vehicles. Of the total of 4.6 million vehicles inspected during the campaign, 22,574 infractions were recorded, 713 of which were related to the use of mobile phones while driving”.

During the campaign period, a total of 2732 accidents were recorded, resulting in 10 fatalities, 57 serious injuries, and 886 minor injuries. Compared to the same period in 2023, there were 22 more accidents, 4 more fatalities, 11 more serious injuries, and 8 fewer minor injuries.

A total of 516 drivers and passengers were sensitized during the campaign about the risk of using a mobile phone while driving, in order to contribute to reducing the risk of accidents and encouraging safer behaviors among drivers.
